WELCOME HOME

PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING

COMING SOON TO 1731 LAWRENCE AVE. E.

Good Shepherd is developing 95-units of affordable housing with onsite support for seniors having lived with chronic homelessness. Together, we can build a healthy, compassionate community.

THE BUILDING

Mathias Place will provide inclusive permanent supportive housing and assisted daily living for low-income senior men and women who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of becoming homeless. The project will offer 95 private rooms, support spaces, and common areas on each floor. A full commercial kitchen on the ground floor will service the main dining room, accommodating all residents. The building features ample outdoor space with an enclosed back garden and two large roof terraces, allowing residents to engage in outdoor activities, relax, and socialize.

The building is designed to feel inviting and comforting, expressed through the simple geometry of a traditional home with a pitched roof and brick cladding. Energy efficiency and accessibility are key considerations. The building aims to achieve a 35% reduction in energy consumption and a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions relative to the 2015 National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB), while meeting Version 4 of the Toronto Green Standards.

All residential units are designed to meet the barrier-free requirements of the Ontario Building Code, with 15% of units and all common areas designed to be fully accessible. The building aims to be certified accessible per the Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF) accessibility certification program.
